Pediatric Dental Care is a branch of dentistry focused on the dental health of children. Many children find dental visits scary and painful, but it's important for them to have regular checkups to catch problems like cavities and tooth decay early. Pediatric dentists treat a variety of common issues in children. One of these is teething problems. If a baby’s teeth come in late, it can affect how they start eating solid foods and learning to speak. Another common issue is malocclusion, which happens when the upper and lower teeth don’t line up properly. This can cause pain when biting, trouble eating or speaking, and even injuries inside the mouth. Pediatric dentists can fix misaligned teeth with braces to help improve a child’s dental health and comfort.
On the first dental visit, the dentist enters the exam room to begin the dental checkup. They will examine the child's teeth for any signs of cavities, plaque, or tartar buildup. In addition to the teeth, the dentist will also assess the health of the child's gums and jaw. Sometimes, the dentist may gently check the child's neck to look for any unusual lumps or signs of dysfunction.
